0845 numbers are toll-free phone prefix variation. It is one of the many toll free prefixes that were created after the supply of the initial prefix was depleted. Other toll free prefixes that came about were 0888, 0877, 0866 and 0870 among many others. Like the original toll free prefix, most of the prefixes that were created also provided a free incoming call for callers. Only the 0845 telephone number deviates from this common notion of toll free phone numbers. Instead of incurring all the communication charges when using toll free numbers, the 0845 prefix will bill the call to the calling party.
Although it requires callers to pay for their calls, the 0845 phone number is very much popular in the UK. This is because even if customers have to pay for their calls, its communication fees are still cheaper compared to traditional phone numbers. This is the reason why it has become the most preferred toll free prefix used by companies and individuals operating and residing in that area. It was even more accepted by companies compared to the first 0800 UK prefix. The reason behind charging the call to the calling party is to discourage unwanted callers from contacting your business.
Receiving of unnecessary calls from telemarketers and prank callers was the main problem of other toll free numbers. Its free incoming call service encourages unwanted callers to contact your business because they know that you will be the one paying when they would contact your company. This particular dilemma of toll free phone numbers is not experienced when you would employ a 0845 number for your business phone system.
